Norway Beach Recreation Area is located five miles east of Cass Lake, Minn. off Highway 2. Follow the signs for the Visitor Center and picnic area or to the four campground loops.
Camping Season: Norway Beach Recreation Area hosts four campground loops (Cass, Norway, Chippewa and Wanaki) Campgrounds are open as follows:
Cass Loop May 25-September 4, 2019
Norway Loop June 29-July 30, 2019
Chippewa Loop May 25-September 25, 2019

Winter Hikes in the Pines: Visitors enjoy the quiet of a winter day at Norway Beach. Park at the gate near the Visitor Center parking area and snowshoe or ski through the picnic area and down the Migizi Trail.
The area is not groomed, but there are often tracks to follow. This is a great place for younger visitors to learn to ski as the trail is gentle with no hills.
Trails: The paved Migizi trail goes through the campgrounds, out to Highway 2 and around Pike Bay. While these trails are not groomed, they are an opportunity to enjoy the winter scenery in the big pines.
The Norway Beach self-guided trail is still being worked on after several summer storms. We hope to have that trail ready for the 2019 summer season. Enjoy the Migizi trail or just meander down campground roads.
Visitor Center: The historic Norway Beach Visitor Center is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Norway Beach Recreation Area is one of the most popular recreation areas on the Chippewa National Forest. With four campgrounds, paved bike trail, picnic area, Visitor Center, hiking trails, and beautiful sand beach, Norway Beach is a great site to spend a summer day!
Summer: Start your adventures at the Norway Beach Visitor Center. This historic log lodge was built in 1938 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
We invited you to join in a summer naturalist program at Norway Beach Visitor Center. Schedules are posted online. Watch for a great selection of hikes, kids activities, a book store and Forest displays. The Visitor Center is open Memorial Day through Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Looking for a campsite? The Chippewa loop is open through September 25. This loop has electric sites and a campground host is on hand to help you with sites. No reservations are taken after Labor Day as the campground is relatively quiet in September. Part of the loop may be seasonally closed.
Campground hosts are on hand to answer any questions and you can also purchase firewood at the host site. All campground loops have reservable sites through Recreation.gov.
Reserve the Picnic Shelter for Special Events: Norway Beach Picnic Shelter is also reservable for special events through the summer.
Autumn Bike Trails: Did you bring your bike? Hop on to the 18-mile Migizi bike trail in front of the Norway Beach Visitor Center. Bike through the campgrounds and out to the Pike Bay loop road. If you want a full day of biking, the Migizi connects with the Heartland trail and eventually even the Paul Bunyan trail.
Related Sites: Stop by the Chippewa National Forest Supervisor’s Office in Cass Lake to view a three-story CCC log structure. Open year-round Monday through Friday.
